Hunger for God Is the Heart of Revival
Message by GUEST SPEAKER REV. JOE PURCELL
Guest speaker Rev. Joe Purcell speaks on the topic of revival: Explaining how he was unexpectedly led by God to study historical revivals - of the Great Awakening and the later movements in the U.S., Europe, and beyond. Rev. Purcell draws heavily on insights from Martin Lloyd-Jones: Emphasizing that true revivals are spontaneous works initiated and completed by God, not of events that are planned, engineered, or forced through human effort or strategy. It begins when individuals develop a deep hunger to know God and His glory.
Therefore, we are called to know Him more; for revival grows out of humility— to recognize our lack of righteousness apart from Christ— and to have a deeper revelation of God’s forgiving love, which sparks genuine hunger and repentance. In praying Spirit-inspired prayers, especially from Ephesians 3, which asks God to strengthen us believers inwardly - that "we may truly comprehend the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge". It is the foundation and catalyst of every true revival.
