The Triumphant Entry
Message by ELDER THOMAS JACQUES
Elder Paul Yee explains the significance of Lent, Palm Sunday, and the events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion. Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, fulfilling prophecy (Zechariah 9:9) as a humble King riding on a donkey. However, many Jews misunderstood His mission, expecting a political Messiah who would overthrow Roman rule and restore Israel’s glory.
Because of oppression under Rome and dissatisfaction with rulers like Herod, the people longed for a conquering king. When Jesus performed miracles, many believed He was that Messiah. But when He did not resist arrest or overthrow the Romans, they became disillusioned and turned against Him, ultimately demanding His crucifixion.
The message highlights that Jesus’ mission was not political but spiritual—to defeat sin, death, and Satan. Through His death and resurrection, He fulfilled prophecies like Isaiah 53, becoming the suffering servant who brings salvation. The sermon concludes by emphasizing that Jesus’ victory is for all, inviting listeners to believe in Him and receive forgiveness and righteousness.
